Big Rig Hendricks and the UFC fight night 105!

Okay, in a few hours UFC fight night 105 will air. Off all the fights I am most intrigued to see Mr Johny Hendricks, the former welterweight champion! I was waiting eagerly for the weigh-ins and Mr Johny came in at 185.5 pounds. Haha so strange. I just thought he would be somewhere around 180. Idk how he weighs so much. Anyways Johny looked happy after long. Man remember his previous weight cut and how he looked. Gosh. Good he looks happy. He’s a former champ for god’s sake. He’s facing Hector Lombard, former Bellator champ! He’s no easy fight for Johny and no way is Hector a pushover. But if Johny can find his grove and if that KO power is back, I see him winning. And I want him to win too. After three straight loses, he has to win this. Man common Johny, decision or KO doesn’t matter just get the W.

And the main event is super awesome as well. Black beast Derrick Lewis faces Travis Browne. Travis is at the most horrible stretch of his career as of now and Derrick is on a four fight win streak! Bad match up we think. But remember when Hapa was considered the next heavyweight champ? Yes he was supposed to be the next big thing just a couple of years ago. His career has slided down and his personal life also has been getting unnecessary attention of late as well. Cos of Ronda Rousey you say? Maybe, maybe not. Cos of Edmond the great you say? More maybe. What we know is that Travis is still under Ednomd. Idk, why man. His life you say? Ha yeah! But at the weigh-ins and the build up he looked calm. Derrick looks like a killer though. Idk man the dudes scary. And it was epic when he said he has to prove nada and he was fighting to provide for his family. That’s some emo stuff there. It was great Derrick saying he’s got nothing to prove when all other fighters out there say they will take the oppenets head off. Derrick though said something different. Something nice. I do not like Travis and I want Derrick to win. But Travis is looking great. I hope Derrick gets the W and goes on to face Francis Ngannou. That’s the match I want to see. Let me not get too ahead! Let’s watch the fight yeah.

Rest of the card is pretty ordinary but definitely is intriguing. The main and co main is awesome though! The card definitely is better than UFC 208! No predictions for any other fight. It’s all in fantasy. Let’s see how many I get correct!

See yeah all soon.

GSP vs Anderson ‘spider’ Silva

That’s the match to make. In July of 2017, when UFC have their biggest event, this is fight that sells. This fight is like the Mayweather and Pacquiao fight. This fight should have happened years ago, when both fighters were at their prime. But that’s not how it works in the fight game. In the fight game, the fight fans gotta wait. But is the wait worth after so many years? Absolutely a Daniel Bryan YES! But Mayweather vs Pacquiao did not live up to the hype and the controversy surrounding the shoulder injury later left a bad taste. Maybe GSP takes Silva down all the five rounds and bore the shit outa fans and we see an absolutely boring fight. Or maybe not. We may see the best of pure mixed martial arts from two of the very very best to ever do it. Yes. NOW THAT IS EXCITING. And that is why this match has to happen. Better later than never.

Yes there’s Nick Diaz and the winner of Woodley/ Thomson fight. But they can wait. Yes there’s time for all that to happen later. Oh! And Thomson says he won’t fight GSP if he wins. Hmm. So maybe the best fight to make is Silva vs GSP. And Anderson winning his previous fight, though controversy surrounding it, helps. The build up to this can be zoomed by UFC and definitely can be tagged as a ‘Once in a lifetime’. Wow just thinking of fight gives me goosebumps. Make it happen UFC. It’s long time coming.

The Flaw of UFC 208

In recent memory UFC 208 has been one of the most unanticipated shows. When tickets get sold in minutes these days, the tickets for UFC 208 are still available. (Grab em’ if you still want one).

Let me put down the main PPV card below:

  • Holy Holm vs Germaine de Randamine
  • Anderson Silva vs Derek Brunson
  • Ronaldo Souza vs Tim Boetsch
  • Glover Teixeira vs Jared Cannonier
  • Dustin Poirier vs Jim Miller

Okay, so what feels so wrong about this card?

My opinion is that all the fights are one fighter centred. There are no two star fighters fighting each other. (like Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor). The main fight is the first fight in the women featherweight division in the UFC and at stake is the featherweight belt. But the featherweight division in the past few young years of the division was synonymous with one women Cristaine Justino, better known as Cyborg. Cyborg wanted a few more months to recover from her severe weight cut to a 140 pounds in her previous fight. But UFC had to get going with a PPV card, after missing one in January 2017. Without Cyborg fighting this fight seems like just another interim title fight. And the fact that Holy Holm is coming of two loses is another reason why  many do not accept with her getting an immediate title shot. Germaine is no superstar by any means and the Iron Lady has a chance to shine on Saturday night. She could, by defeating Holly, retire her as well.

The co-main event does not have any real story to it. Again the fight is sold only cos of Anderson and him being the most dominant champion in the past. Anderson Silva does not have a solid victory under his name is years and Derek Brunson is coming off a knockout loss to Robert Whittaker. Similarly, Derek winning could well close the coffin on Anderson Silvas’s long celebrated career.

The same is with the other two fights, where Jacare Souza and Glover are the relevant names. They have very less to gain in their wins but a lot to loose if they fail to get the W.

The card is an opportunity for the unknowns to get relevant. Its an opportunity for Germaine de Randamine, Derek Brunson, Tim Boetsch and Jared Cannonier to etch their names and to shine a little more brighter. And if someone can finish the night in style against a relevant name, their stakes rise, the money rises and the big fights come along. The card is also an opportunity for Dustin Poirier to get back to winning ways  and show his class again.

Watch this fight card to witness the unknowns rise to occasion or the old dogs moving further along in their already celebrated careers.

PS: we all like to see an underdog win. What if, just what if, Germaine de Randamine, Derek Brunson, Tim Boetsch and Jared Cannonier all manage to pull off the victories. It would be one of the greatest cards in history.

Let us all witness UFC 208.
